Lupus is a mystery disease, and a cruel one at that. At least 1.5 million Americans have been diagnosed with this disease which comes in many different forms, masked by other more well-known illnesses.
Island resident Terese “Teri” Hunter is just 59. She was a wife, mother, community activist and volunteer and a member of the Grosse Ile Board of Education — was, until 10 years ago. When she broke out in hives, noticed a reddening rash across her nose and cheekbones, had allergic reactions and suffered from extreme fatigue, she did not know what was happening to her body.
